Methanol Filtration Filter Cartridge Selection

Material Priority: Never use 304 stainless steel to process methanol solutions containing formic acid/acetic acid (byproducts); directly select 316L stainless steel; the sealing ring must be made of PTFE/Viton material (avoid using NBR material, which is incompatible with methanol).

Precision Matching: Determine the filtration precision based on the downstream process. For example, a two-stage filtration system can use a 5 μm pre-filter + a 1 μm fine filter.

Flow Rate and Pressure Drop: Calculate the number of filter cartridges based on the required flow rate (at room temperature, the methanol flow rate of a 10-inch 65 mm outer diameter 316L sintered felt filter cartridge is typically 20-30 m³/h). Control the initial pressure drop below 0.03 MPa, and perform cleaning/regeneration when the pressure difference reaches 0.1-0.15 MPa.

Cleaning and Regeneration: Use nitrogen backwashing + ultrasonic cleaning, with anhydrous methanol or deionized water as the cleaning solution; avoid using corrosive cleaning agents that will damage stainless steel.

Safety: Methanol is flammable and toxic. During replacement/cleaning, ensure good ventilation and strictly adhere to fire and explosion prevention regulations.

Comparison with Disposable Polymer Filter Cartridges

Advantages of Stainless Steel Pleated Filter Cartridges: Longer service life, lower long-term cost, higher temperature and pressure resistance, no plastic waste, more environmentally friendly.

Advantages of Polymer Filter Cartridges: Lower initial cost, suitable for… achieving ultra-fine precision (< 1 μm) at low flow rates, and allowing for faster replacement.
